My background is marketing and communications, particularly in the ethical arena. I always called myself an ethical marketing specialist but now everyone talks about sustainability. Whatever you call it, my experience means that I have worked as a sustainability marketing freelancer. I have specialised in marketing strategies for purpose-driven brands for the past 15 years. I understand what consumers and sustainable business owners are looking for and how to communicate with them in an honest and compelling way.
I have tried to live an ethical life myself for over 20 years. My interest started from a place of health, moved on to social justice and then on to climate change. In short, I am a conscious consumer myself - the food I eat, my clothes, my mobile phone, my energy supplier, my household products, my car. And it is not a compromise.
My own enlightenment took place in the early 2000's when I discovered the amount of chemicals we are all exposed to in our daily lives, particularly in food and other everyday products. I learnt so much about agriculture and the problems of pesticides and habitat loss at a time when there was not widespread concern or understanding.
This resulted in the launch of my own social enterprise in 2007 to educate women about breast cancer prevention. I focused on areas such as the importance of diet, exercise, managing stress and avoiding certain hormone disrupting chemicals. Topics which are now widely adopted but at that time prevention was not top of mind. I was able to increase my reach when I partnered with Breast Cancer UK and developed my educational programme for them through a national network of Ambassadors.
In 2012 I launched as a marketing freelancer with my focus on ethical marketing. I worked with social entrepreneurs, campaigning not-for-profits as well as commercial businesses in the organic sector. As a sustainability marketing strategist, the marketing plans I developed for my clients have always included ethical objectives alongside financial and marketing KPIs. At that time, these were often more difficult to define and measure but they were what brought meaning, purpose and a unique identity to the business.

In late 2021 I decided I wanted to do more. I decided to move my focus from working only with businesses and organisations who were already committed to saving the planet. I want to help other businesses by empowering their marketing teams to be inspired by ethical marketing principles. This is the best way for me to increase my own impact - by helping others as a sustainability marketing freelancer.
As a Chartered Marketer, I am skilled in making things simple to understand and explaining the benefits of acting in a particular way. I have experience across a number of sectors and also walk the walk when it comes to implementing a sustainability strategy. I am co-owner of a holiday rental business and have developed our own Climate Action Plan, following all the sustainable principles I have adopted in my own life.

One of my skills has always been the ability to bring simplicity and clarity to complex issues. Sustainability is actually quite simple. We need to reduce the amount of carbon we are putting into the atmosphere, we need to protect the natural world and we need to find ways of treating people with equal respect and value. Any organisation can have an impact whether they are a large corporate or a small business. The important thing is that we must all get started now regardless of whether we feel totally ready. Marketing teams have the unique opportunity to play a pivotal role by adopting ethical marketing. But it's so important to avoid greenwashing which makes working with a sustainability marketing freelancer a wise decision.
Climate change and social justice are global problems. I have worked as a marketing freelancer for UK businesses as well as global organisations and enjoy working in a diverse and inclusive environment. I am a linguist with Italian, French and German alongside my mother tongue English.
I offer cross-sector experience as a sustainability marketing freelancer. This means I am well-versed in sustainable innovation and ethical marketing strategy. Thus I can share ideas and best practice. These are some of the sectors I have worked in:
To make the changes needed to reshape our world, everyone needs to play a part. Collaboration rather than competition has always been my style. I believe in optimism and inspiration rather than fear as a motivator. I see this time as the most exciting era of my career and I look forward to working with others to have a positive impact on the world.
