Sustainability can seem like a complex subject. But it can actually be broken down into 3 clear areas which cover ESG strategy (Environment, Social and Governance).
Carbon Reduction - the simplest way to address the climate crisis is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions we are putting into the atmosphere. Every type of business is different and has an impact in varying degrees. But we can all do something. There should certainly be emission & cost savings, particularly in the energy and waste area.
Protect the Natural World - in recent decades we have used natural resources from all parts of the world as if they were free. These resources are not finite and are part of an overall ecosystem of flora, fauna and people which are all connected. There is another way by moving from a linear to a circular economy.
People Matter - despite all the advances in techonology people are still vital to running a business - whether they are your employees or people in your supply chain. It makes sense to ensure that they are treated well with equity and respect.
The Sustainability Strategy I offer covers all these 3 key areas: Cimate Change, the Natural World and People. Of course, I would encourage you to address all three in combination and there is a financial incentive to do so. However, you can choose to start with one or two to suit your business. This is what we can discuss if you book a Free Sustainability Audit with me.

I specialise in working with SMEs and I work as a independent consultant. This means that I can create a sustainability strategy which will be right for your type of business and your sustainability starting point. I aim to make it simple and accessible for any company who wants to play their part in doing the right thing. I'm coming at this as an experienced marketer with practical knowledge of working with purpose-driven businesses - not as a theory-based scientist. This means I understand the importance of communication in agreeing and implementing business strategies and change management.
The choices above give you an idea of the areas we can cover but every strategy will be individually quoted. Remember that there should be savings and there may be budget which can be reallocated. You can decide where you want to start and how much you want to address. You may decide to set some achievable goals across all areas or really focus on your carbon footprint and start there. The most important thing is to get started. I will always encourage you to challenge yourself and go a bit further but you will decide.
Remember that having a sustainability strategy is not an add-on to your existing business model. It should become your foundation and, as such, future proof your company, whilst establishing you as a leading, forward-thinking brand in your industry.
A combination of key skills for an ambitious yet realistic sustainability strategy for your business. I have worked in the ethical sector for over 15 years and live as a conscious consumer myself - so it is embedded in my psyche.
I will look at your business through an ethical lens and work with you and your people to choose the areas to address first with measurable ESG goals and suitable tools to help you on your journey. I can make independent recommendations.
For any sustainability strategy to be successful, you must get your people onboard. Together we can develop ways to make them feel involved and inspired. This also applies to the people in your supply chain - you work with them as partners.
As well as communicating your sustainability commitment to your staff, you must inform and educate your customers, your suppliers and peers in your industry. I can make sure you do this honestly and transparently with no risk of greenwashing
Despite the power of modern technology, business is still about people. I have multi-sector experience of sustainability successes and networks of contacts who can help you achieve your goals. Sustainability is about collaboration and being part of something bigger than yourself.
I do what I do as I am hopeful for the future. I truly believe that the human race has the creativity and determination to come up with inventive solutions to the environmental and social challenges we face. And I want to be part of that.
